Refillable Water Bottles from Jaya House

Jaya House Hotels declares a "Climate Emergency" and joins a new global movement

Ever since our birth Jaya House River Park has aimed to be close to 100% single-use plastic-free for some rather obvious reasons.

In partnership with Meru Asia & Just Ride MotoBike Adventures, we co-started an initiative to reduce the mountains of single-use plastic water bottles through www.refilltheworld.com.

Founded in 2016 by Christian de Boer (Jaya House Hotels) and Dean McLachlan (JustRide Motorbike Adventures), Refill Not Landfill is a global campaign to reduce single-use plastic drinking bottles and other single-use plastic waste.

Refill Not Landfill aims to reduce the millions of plastic water bottles discarded each year by encouraging the use of reusable drinking bottles, replacing millions of single-use plastic water bottles, and offering free water refill stations at participating businesses and partners around the world.

We are a proud partner of www.facebook.com/TourismDeclares

Over time this little initiative has grown and grown and is now active through numerous partners in about 19 countries collectively saving MILLIONS and MILLIONS of plastic water bottles from ending up in rivers, oceans, and landfills.

Tourism in Cambodia alone used 4.6 MILLION plastic water bottles a month

We believe that the global weather events of 2021 are only the beginning. The future will see many more floods, droughts, stronger hurricanes, wildfires and the costs involved will become so big that it is not imaginable for us today.

We believe it's time. We believe it's time NOW to take drastic action and simply abolish plastic in the tourism industry.

Many progressive #DMC's are indeed like-minded and are making their own efforts for a cleaner and better world. Now it's time that the slower and tourism players also get on board and make a much bigger effort.

We would like our future guests to choose wisely and make an informed decision. Ask questions and demand that your tour operator stop using single-use plastic.

The alternatives are here.
The alternatives are financially viable and achievable.

On top of strongly reducing the mountains of plastic, we have also planted over 2000 3-meter tall trees along the banks of the #SiemReap river in the hope to inspire others and showcase it can be done.

Bamboo Drinking Straws from Jaya House

Our commitment

Our commitment will be to continue to spread the word about the dangers of plastic through our industry partners and locally-based #DMC's. The time will come we will ONLY work with those #agents, #touroperators #DMC's that have a similar mindset and are also making an active commitment towards the future of our planet.

The time for pledging, the time for talking is now over: it's time for action.

The Problem

4.8 million visitors traveled to Cambodia in 2015, staying for an average of 6.8 days. In just one month, each visitor consumed around 2 liters of water per day, which amounts to more than 10 million half-liter single-use plastic waters bottles! That is a staggering 355,000 bottles per day or almost 130,000,000 bottles per year. Can you imagine 26 Olympic-sized swimming pools full of plastic water bottles, every year? But, there is another way.

Anyone can refill their bottle with clean drinking water, free of charge, at designated Refill Not Landfill refill stations around the world! Since our launch in 2016, Refill Not Landfill has received orders for more than 160,000 refill bottles from a diverse range of restaurants, hotels, cafés, NGOs, and schools. This represents a staggering potential saving of 235 million plastic bottles over four years!

We are passionate about working together to develop a greener, cleaner, and more beautiful planet for the benefit of all of us, including future generations yet to come. We would love your small business, company, or organization to become a part of our vision!
